Film is Rated PG 13
(Parents please note the following rating information from the Director:
If the film were rated, it to be a PG-13, for some
Shakespeare-like gore. No one has thought it to be very scary...yet. There are a
few curse words: "bitch" (1), "you bastards" (1), "Die, dammit, die!" (1). There
is one suggestive shot of a naked blonde blowing kisses at Beowulf, but she is
covered in furs.

GUEST Recording Artist/Musician:
John Zappa
John Zappa is a freelance trumpeter,
drummer and singer in the Cincinnati area. He studied jazz trumpet in his
undergrad degree and jazz drums in his Masters degree at the University of
Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and was featured on the school’s album
Carnival of Life (1994 Alissa Records) as both a lead player and a jazz
soloist. To work his way through school, John played with pop and R&B bands
in the nightclubs around town. After college, John spent three years driving to
Bloomington, Indiana on a regular basis to study trumpet with the world renowned
teacher, William Adam.
John played with Cincinnati’s
acclaimed, Blue Wisp Big Band for the first time when he was 17 and
continues to be called in as a lead player or a jazz soloist. He has
contributed several arrangements to their book.
Beginning in 1993, he also played with
the cutting edge PsychoAcoustic Orchestra alongside his former teacher,
Pat Harbison. Famed radio personality, Oscar Treadwell wrote the liner notes for
the band’s first album Supreme Thing (Cabin 2 Music 1994) and notes
that “trumpetrs Gary Winters, John Zappa and Pat Harbison can plat anything put
before them. When called upon to go out front they do so with spontaneous and
interesting solos. Their ensemble is as notable for their precision as their
cohesive sound.” John had the honor a few years later to perform in person for
Oscar Treawell, as a member of the Steve Schmidt Quintet, at a tribute concert
in his honor.
Throughout the 1990’s John worked as a
freelance trumpeter in night clubs, theater productions, orchestras, big bands
and studio work. In 1997 he formed his own swing dance band and named it
Rich Uncle Skeleton. John gained valuable experience as a leader, a
writer/arranger and as a singer. Rich Uncle Skeleton was quite popular
regionally. The most positive effect for John from putting together this group
was meeting his future wife, Carrie-Ellen on the swing dancing scene.
In 1996 and ’97, John gained some
valuable teaching experience alongside his father at St. Xavier High School,
where he taught Music Theory and the Jazz Ensemble. John also arranged a Blues
Brothers themed, marching band show there.
As the swing
dancing craze faded in the mid-west, and the members of Rich Uncle Skeleton
moved on with various projects of their own, John went back to doing more
freelancing, which involved recording for jingles and cruise ship shows as well
as various album projects including the Grammy nominated When Bullfrogs
Croak, by Zach Morgan and Undacova Funk, by Bootsy Collins and
Snoop Dogg which is featured in the movie, “Undercover Brother.”. He was also
performing frequently throughout the area with local legends such as Cal
Collins, Katie Laur and Steve Schmidt.
At this
time, John also began playing with the award winning salsa dance band,
Tropicoso. This band released an album of original music in 2005 and
continues to be a major force in the region’s latin music scene.
In 2003
The John Zappa quartet was featured at the Chez Nora rooftop Jazz Club for
several months as the weekend house band. In addition to hosting many esteemed
guest artists who played with band, including the great singer of Count Basie
band fame, Bill Cafee; this group featured the famed drummer John Von Ohlen. It
was during this time that Zappa’s long time love affair with jazz drumming was
ignited and he began to seriously study the instrument. This study continued
with Von Ohlen and Marc Wolfley at The University of Cincinnati
College-Conservatory of Music resulting in a Masters Degree in Jazz Percussion.
Currently, John is busy as a faculty member at Northern Kentucky
University, where he teaches Jazz Appreciation and teaches trumpet and drums
privately at Mehas in Blue Ash. Tropicoso continues to work frequently,
including a weekly Monday night gig that is in it's 11th year and
counting. He continues to freelance in a variety of styles of music including
pop, rock and soul and is focusing on drumming and helping manage bands. He has
played with over 30 professonal bands, traveled and performed internationally,
played in concerts, weddings, private functions, CD's, Movies, Radio jingles and
more.

The Last Group Master Class with Trina Harmon & Rodney Petrekis on "Having a Successful, Meaningful Career" was an incredible spiritual bath of ideas for the 30 plus students and parents who were able to attend. The advice, ideas and suggestions she offered were insightful, inspirational and certainly part of the process in everyone's journey not only as artists but also in life. Trina and Rodney spoke with and coached indivdiuals until late in the wee hours. The feedback from students and parents is already overflowing with gratitude and many comented how the things they shared would hit them in years to come. The wisdom, experience and perspective was essential and helpful. Towards the end of the session, Trina took volunteers to sing and gave some one on one coaching and feedback. Eventually, I had to kick people out so she could continue working with indivduals for their private coaching sessions, which some of my students had arranged with Trina from getting in touch with her through a local singing competition. This was an incredibly well attended workshop put together in 24 hours and one of the most resounding seminars ever given at my studio! Trina is available for coaching sessions via phone and email.
Please tell everyone to feel free to call us for consultations, set up sessions,
or call us when they are in LA!! What an amazing group of talent!

Below are comments and feedback from some of my students and parents
who attended about the workshop (You can find these on my website along with
your contact info if you go to the Next Group Workshop and read more:
"What an inspiring workshop last night! I really enjoyed listening
to Trina. I wholeheartedly agreed with her perspective - and what I loved most
was the fact that you can take everything she said and apply it to every part of
your life - just life in general - not specifically the entertainment business.
I felt like I had just stepped out of a therapy session. So I thank you for
bringing her to us and sharing her insight. I can see how the two of you would
be drawn together - you both have that inner light." Amy Hall
Dear Carrie-Ellen,
"Thank you, thank you, thank you. This
information shared tonight by Trina and Rodney was so impactful and what I try
to teach the girls. I loved everything expressed. I think the girls did
too!" Susan Brose
"Morgan really enjoyed last night - Thanks so much!" Mary Beth Reece
"Our 6 year old daughter came home that night after the workshop and
said to her daddy it was "inspiring'. The next day she took some alone time in
her room and wrote a song. The next day she took some alone time outside and
wrote a second song. The second song was originally titled TRUTH, but she
renamed it GOOD AND BROCKEN. She will be singing them to me at her next lesson
with you". Isabel Steffens
"I loved the thing Trina said about Fear. What would you do if you
weren't fearful and what would you not do?" When I asked her what she would do
she said "perform". She proceeded to play the piano and sing one of her
favorite pop songs at our next lesson for me. Later that night she went to an
audition we had been preparing her for with a song and monologue and incredible
confidence. Her mom was able to observe the audition and remarked that several
parents came up and congratulated her daughter on the "incredible" job she did
and how good she was...by the way this was her FIRST audition! Connor Adkins
"I really liked it when Trina said 'don't ever let anyone tell you you aren't good enough" Julia Kempf
"I appreciated hearing Trina's words 'It's not about who you know, it's about who knows you'" Sheri Kempf
"Regarding making choices about chosing audition pieces, auditioning, casting opportunities etc, I related to the idea she said 'if you don't think it's the right thing - don't do it'. Ian Devine
"Lauren thoroughly enjoyed Monday. I wish I had been there for the entire evening.
What a special lady. I would love for Lauren to meet with her a few more
times. Thank you so much for making the evening happen!!" Sherry Magness
"Hi! First, let me just thank you for inviting
Victoria to the workshop on Monday. She was expecting a private lesson with you
and was a little nervous to stay without any details about the workshop, but
afterwards, she was just going on and on about how awesome and "inspiring" it
was. She said she wanted to run up and hug Trina and tell her how thankful she
was for inspiring her to keep going and follow her dreams. She had tears in her
eyes, she was so emotional. She said she knows she still wants to put the effort
into improving her acting and auditioning skills." Debbie Shields

charts for over 50 weeks. ASCAP awarded it one of the most played songs by

educating and inspiring all artists to their personal best.
“I can only guess the percentage, but I feel there are far too many people in this
industry (world) that, after having experienced the fleeting moments of ‘success’,
are unhappy and unfulfilled. It doesn’t matter how many platinum plaques are on
the wall, how much money is in the bank or that people know our names
wherever we go. I dedicate much of my time to working with others in and around
the industry, helping them find their truth and how to have everything they truly
want so they can impact the world in a far greater way. Having a successful,
meaningful career while having a happy life is my life’s mission, for myself and
for everyone that comes across my path.”

One of our last Group Master Classes "Acting for the
Camera" with Guest Teacher Stephen Samuels was one of the strongest GMC
acting classes the studio has had with over 20 talented students
attending and performing monologues and improvisation. The goal for the
workshop was to focus on honest, truthful acting - one of the most
important things in effective acting. I started with some
improvisation and vocal warmups, followed by a short lecture on
preperation, mental attitude and professionalism. Next I had everyone
practicing slating for the camera and working on monologues in pairs
answering 3 important acting questions. Next, Stephen's
lecture/question and answer session was insightful and taught everyone
about some of the aspects of professional auditioning/working in LA on
TV, agents, managers etc. Similarities and differences between acting
for stage theater and TV film were discussed and each student shared
what their goals were and what they loved most about
acting/performing. Additional questions and many ideas were discussed
which the students took notes on and will answer later for their own
work in the craft. The last part of the class focused on monologue
work, which was filmed so we can watch them in private lessons and
review for further critique and improvement. Stephen's questions,
discussion and direction after each student performed was inspired and
every student worked hard to accomplish what he ws looking for.
Dramatic changes occurred, histarical and tender momments were created,
and breakthroughs in acting happened late in the evening with Jessica
Kenny bringing several students and parents to tears, myself included
with a truthuful, moving performance that was beautiful. I had to kick
out the last students and parents after 10pm! Stephen was incredibly
impressed with the talent and professionalism exhibited. He loved
working with everyone and said many times "These are talented
individuals, they are really good. You are all so prepared and the
monologue choices are great for each of them. Keep doing what you are
doing! "Stephen will be coming back to the studio when he returns to the tri-state in 2009.
