5 additional talent I manage auditioned for their first time for the CTC season and were not called back. None of these are current regular students who study privatly with me on a consistant basis. A couple took one lesson prior to the audition to prepare. My advice is to continue training and prepare with me in advance with enough time to have me help you pick appropriate material in the correct style that suits the individual as well as the available roles/shows. In addition, remember this is the most competitive professional theater company in town for kids and teens. Sometimes it takes several years auditioning for the season before being cast. Keep auditioning! Audition for other shows and companies to build your training, experience, resume, etc.

Max Poff - 12 years old
Check out his live performance on You Tube:
Max Poff Dancing like Michael Jackson

I encourage all my talent I manage and students I coach to check out this live dance performance video of Max Poff! Watch it on utube and send your supportive comments.

Max has been studying with me at Zappa Studios privately on a regular basis to prepare for theater/musical theater auditions, call backs and working on specific roles. We have worked to get him ready for auditions for Star Camp with the Cincinnati Children's Theater professional paying company and  Cincinnati Children's Theater Season auditions and call backs last year and this year. Last year he was cast in the ensemble of Holiday Follies and made it into Star Camp where he played the scarecrow in a "Wizard of Oz" scene and was in Little Star, while also being placed in some Star dances/numbers with the older, more experienced performers. This Season he was called back for all 4 shows of CTC's season for leading roles and was cast in the lead child role in "How I became a Pirate" the opening show for the season (and the only young child role) in which he will be acting, singing and dancing throughout the entire show, an ensemble/clogger in Holiday Follies and the lost boy Foxy in the World Premier of Disney's Peter Pan.  Max was also offered a lead role in a professional play and has been invited to audition for  a Casting Director for a lead role in the Tony Award Winning Playhouse in the Park and a Hollywood Feature Film. This has been an exciting year working with Max and watching his steady growth and progress as well as being recognized for his talent, skill and professionalism.

Max is a natural and gifted dancer who has been training for years. The Michael Jackson moves, tap/clogging he does in the video of this solo piece at a recent National dance competition are truly incredible. When I first saw this video I was blown away and immediately asked his Mom to get me a copy and advised her to put it on utube so I could send it out to some folks to see just how awesome he is. Although Max makes the moves seem effortless, many of them are extremely advanced and challenging. The style, timing, rhythm, isolations, and showmanship are really quite extraordinary for a 12 year old boy.
His amazing Mom, Shari Poff, owns and runs the dance studio Max trains at for dance...and for years he has been one of the only males performing with all females at regional and national dance competitions. So for all you boys out there wondering if you should take a dance class...just do it!
Recently Max performed at the Cincinnati Pops 4th of July Concert at Riverbed as the only male surrounded by a group of females in a wonderful "Yankee Doodle Dandy" clogging number.

Congratulations Max on your hard work, training, studying and progressive success! It's exciting to see you becoming a triple threat talent:) Your proud coach and talent manager, Carrie-Ellen Zappa
Special thanks to Max's friend and Zappa Studios Triple Threat talent/student Matthew Carroll and their family for making the youtube possible:)

Jake was in Sunday's newspaper in the catalog for Kohl's. He is dressed in a hip outfit holding a skateboard with a great smile.
It's the first time we have actually seen him in print! Jakes Grandmother in Texas is actually the one who saw him first. She called to confirm it was him so we know he made it all the way to Texas!
He also just found out he booked a commercial for Golden Era. He had auditioned for the cd (casting director) for a different commercial and had made it to the final two, between Jake and another boy. The director felt the other boy had more of a 70's vibe so jake didn't get that one. The CD remembered Jake when the second commercial came around and didn't even audition him, just booked him from the previous audition.

Congratulations Zappa Studios Talent Jessica Kenney

FOX 19 has invited Jessica back for her second TV interview and recording. They requested to tape her singing a Christmas Song.

Jess is working on recording her second CD with John Zappa through Zappa Studios working on 1 original song co-written by Trina Harmon (see bio below)  and the other one written by Jason Deere (see bio below).

Over a year ago Carrie-Ellen Zappa brought Trina Harmon in for a special Free workshop for all of her students and parents to participate. After this meeting Jess and Trina began working together. Trina introduced her to Jason Deere, suggesting a specific song of his for Jess to sing that would be perfect for Jess's message to young kids. Since then Jess has been training with vocal coach Scott Wooley, Acting/Staging coach & Manager Carrie-Ellen Zappa, Choregrapher who worked with Beyonce, dancers cast by Zappa Studios.

Jess has continued to perform solo both songs as well as other music for Fox 19, "Cincy Entertianment, Talent Shows, PLOTT Performers, Live Dj/Radio Show and recently performed both songs as one of the opening acts for Billy Rae Cyrus, John Michael Montgomery & Jillian Huffman.

Jess was recently hired to perform Solo at Weddings, for P.L.O.T.T performers as a soloist singer for dinner events, and in a professional dinner theater company. She will be performing for Zappa Studios for the Sharonville Community Center Public Holiday Celebration December 5th.  She has also begun working on Film, TV, and Web including Disney's "Secretariat", featured extra in "Fallen" the webseries/TV pilot, Doritos competition commercial for the Superbowl and other local indepedant films.

Jason Deere, award-winning songwriter and producer, has written songs for a plethora of renowned artists, including LeAnn Rimes, Jessica Simpson, Little Big Town, The Wreckers, Jim Brickman, and Latin sensation Wanessa Camargo. He has worked closely with groups such as SHeDAISY, Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband, and Due West, helping them become the success stories they are today. He has written many chart-topping singles, including SHeDAISY’s recent hit single “Don’t Worry ’Bout a Thing,” and his music has been featured in motion pictures such as The Nativity and Tim Allen’s Santa Clause 2. With his friend Dan Truman, Jason wrote and produced two of Deseret Book’s top-selling albums: Joseph: A Nashville Tribute to the Prophet and Trek: A Nashville Tribute to the Pioneers. They have enjoyed touring these albums, doing over 200 shows across the U.S. and Australia as the Nashville Tribute Band (nashvilletribute.com). Jason served a mission in the Nevada Las Vegas Mission.

Splitting her time between Los Angeles, Nashville, & New York, Trina Harmon has had numerous songs recorded by major recording artists in Pop, Country, R&B and Contemporary Christian formats as well as film soundtracks. Her first top 10 single, "When You Lie Next to Me", recorded by Kellie Coffey, crossed over and remained in Billboard's Country, Pop, and A/C charts for over 50 weeks. Trina earned her first production credit and wrote 4 songs on Jessica Simpson's multi-platinum album, In This Skin. Other artists who have written with and recorded Trina's songs include Hillary Duff, Nick Lachey, Jesse McCartney, Amy Grant, Vince Gill, Brandy, Tina Arena, SheDaisy, Jennifer Paige, Eden's Crush, Plus One, Jessica Andrews and Natalie Grant as well as many others. As a Songwriter and Producer, she has always been naturally "listening and advising someone's problems" as she was turning them into songs. In 2005, Trina decided to take her unofficial role as an "artist life coach" and formally offer it to the many friends and acquaintances in the Entertainment industry that had turned to her for trusted guidance. Today, she counts famed artists, producers, managers, writers, and music execs along with many others, as her clients.

He will be on the upcoming National TV show "Sons of Tucson" in January on an episode called Tech Scout as Gary's classmate. IMDB
This is an interesting show that he auditioned for one of the leads on the show. Even though he wasn't cast in one of the leading roles, he was cast in a role on the show. IMDB. This is a great example of how important auditions are even when you aren't cast for the role you go up for. You never know when they might cast you in another role or for another show.

Here is how it all started - auditioning and networking. Chelsea Renner followed up on an audition for a Film I encouraged her to attend, was cast, worked with Michael Baker who cast her in this TV show. Thanks to Chelsea and her Mom, Missy, who suggested Michael and I work together casting additional hosts from my students. Auditions were held at Zappa Studios and all Artists of Zappa Studios were invited to attend.  Michael cast 2 hosts he was looking for and invited Jessica Kenney and another adult to be guests on future shows to interview.  These students are gaining professional training, coaching and experience working on this show and learning about filming, TV, commercial, websites, etc.

She is one of the youngest people in the show, and working with almost all adults.

Recently, Allie was invited by her old Middle School in Mason to be the choreographer for "Honk Jr."

Zappa Studios was contacted by the director of this film to invite students to audition for this film.
Each of these students found out about auditions for this film from Zappa Studios, auditioned and were cast.
Several of these students have received other offers for films, commercials, and local TV shows directly from networking on this film.

Congratulations to the 28 Students of Zappa Studios who sang, dance and performed their hearts out in original choreography/story created by Carrie-Ellen Zappa and her talented students as a group at the recent CoCo Key commercial auditions which Carrie-Ellen researched, organized and managed with 2 assistants.
